A.F. Blakemore along with businesses including Cadbury, Barclays, Carrillion, Royal Mail and KPMG picked up the award in the Employability category for their contribution to the West Midlands Business Action on Homelessness Steering Group.

The Steering Group was originally established in 1999 and aims to break the vicious cycle of 'no job, no home', by helping homeless people find employment and independent living.

Year to date the group supported 95 clients entering into the Ready for Work programme, of which 85 of those have started a work placement, 68 of those have completed their placement and 29 have since gained full time employment.

The programme has shown huge benefits for the workforce including a recent volunteer survey suggesting that 71% of volunteers felt their loyalty towards their company had improved, 69% felt more motivated in their work and 77% reported and increase in team work.

Since joining the Business Action on Homelessness programme, A.F. Blakemore has hosted five Ready for Work two week work placements at its Axcess 10, Accounts, Wolverhampton Science Park and Birmingham Cash & Carry sites.
